    The Hiller Companies, a national leader in the fire protection and security industry, has an immediate need for a Design Trainee.


    Pay Range:
    $ $32.00 per hour

    Job Summary:

    A Fire Sprinkler Design Trainee is responsible for learning and developing skills to use computer-aided design (CAD) to create detailed drawings and layouts, perform hydraulic calculations, and the procurement of materials.

    The design trainee's role offers hands-on experience and training within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

    The Fire Sprinkler Design Trainee will work closely with our experienced design team to assist in creating effective and compliant fire protection solutions for a variety of projects.


    Job Responsibilities:

    • Create basic fire sprinkler drawings using a specialized computer-aided design (CAD) software package based on the AutoCAD platform.
    • Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components.
    • Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
    • Interpret and apply NFPA standards to the design of fire sprinkler systems.
    • Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
    • Visit project sites to conduct surveys of the existing fire sprinkler systems.
    • Coordinate with team members for listing of materials.
    • Coordinate with team members for permits and inspections.
    • Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
    • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
    • Provide outstanding customer service.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    Education, Licensure & Certifications:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Current pursuit of Design degree preferred.

    Experience:

    • Construction or fire protection industry related experience preferred.
    • Experience in an office setting preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, Capabilities:

    • Proficient use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
    • Visualizes 3D concepts and solves basic mathematic problems.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.
    • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to gain an understanding of the fire sprinkler installation process to ensure new systems are installed per the project plan.
    • Employee must be able to:
    • Lift 20 pounds
    • Use a computer, telephone.
    • Sit and/or stand for several hours at a time.
