    Job Description and Duties

    The CalSTRS Facilities Management Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Staff Services Manager I (Supervisory) in the Safety & Emergency Services Office.

    The Facilities Management Division strives for total customer satisfaction internally and externally as we ensure efficient building operations, a safe, secure environment and outstanding, reliable services in the areas of Imaging, mail and business services.

    Under direction of the Business Resilience Manager, Staff Services Manager II (SSM II), the Staff Services Manager I (Supervisory) acts as the Safety & Emergency Services Manager and provides day-to day direction, development and leadership to the Safety & Emergency Services (SES) staff. The incumbent is a working level leader who is responsible for taking effective action to create and maintain program standards for emergency response and staff safety, analyzing and resolving complex and critical issues, and ensuring the program functions meet the expectations of Facilities Management and state practices. The SSM I provides recommendations to the Business Resilience Manager in the planning and program management as it relates to the CalSTRS Safety and Emergency Services Office.

  • Experience developing policy and procedures for safety in high-rise and multi-tenant buildings.
  • Highly motivated with strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities, effectively manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines within challenging and strict time constraints.
  • Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

    Telework Information: CalSTRS offers a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working two days onsite at our headquarters in West Sacramento, CA and three days remote, with the ability to be flexible based on business needs.

    Working Conditions

    All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.

    This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment with CalSTRS.

    Exam
    This position requires a current Staff Services Manager I Exam. If you need to take the exam or if your score has expired, to gain list eligibility.
    Background Investigation

    Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.
