    Summary



    This position is located within the Network Services Branch, AIF-320.



    Duties


    The Network Services Branch (AIF-320) plays a critical role within the Operations Division of the Infrastructure of Operations (I&O) directorate administering and monitoring the FAA's Mission Support Network. These systems and services include LANs, WANs and the FAA wireless infrastructure. AIF-320 detects, diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves all network services outages and performance issues as they are identified.

    This position is inherently governmental as it will determine AIT continuity of operations, strategy, implementation, policies, and guidance for the Network Management Branch within the Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) organization. The position will assist in the budget process for identifying and implementing national network strategy related technologies and assist in the evaluation of products and vendor solutions for network related technologies and connectivity.

    This position within the Network Management Branch will enable the successful operation of the FAA's network systems and services including LANs (Local Area Networks), WANs (Wide Area Networks), and Wireless Infrastructure. The incumbent will be responsible for managing AIT's Enterprise Network systems, primarily the layer 2 and layer 3 router\switch and wireless infrastructure. He/She will have an expertise of network infrastructure (routers\switches\wireless) and many other enterprise networking services and systems.

    He/She will maintain the FAA's Mission support Network infrastructure (routers\switches\wireless). Other responsibilities include working with NAS (National Airspace System) system owners to develop high efficiency, resilient hardware and IP solutions that support the NAS integration with Mission support. He/She will be responsible for working with multiple organizations and groups to provide reliable, secure, and high-performance network solutions that meet the customers' requirements. Work usually includes routine project/program tasks based on established policies, procedures, and guidelines.

    Incumbent will utilize Cisco routers, switches, and wireless. He/She will work on a large-scale enterprise network specific to routing, switching, dynamic routing protocols, Access Control Lists, IPv4 and IPv6.

    Independently performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments under minimal direction. The individual acts as the principal technical specialist or as a project manager or team lead for large work activities. Solve complex problems and develop improved technical processes or systems. Communication skills in small and medium sized groups are required to gather required information and brief out on results. The ability to ask the right questions to better understand processes and requirements from customers is a key skill for this position. The Network Operations specialist will need to effectively communicate and collaborate with peers and stakeholders to facilitate a positive customer experience.
