    Position: Deputy Director of Communications

    Company: Illinois Department of Public Health



    Salary Range: $11,000-$12,667/Month


    Job Type: Salaried

    Job Description:

    • Serve as Deputy Director of the Office of Communications.

    As a policy-making official, plan, execute, and evaluate the operations of the Office. Decide on annual communication strategies, events, campaigns, and key dates. Provide input in determining departmental policies and objectives. Develop policies impacting agency management. Coordinate agency activities as mandated by legislation and regulations. Establish and review policies for program implementation. Set goals for the Office and provide year-end reports summarizing achievements and audience engagement. Assist in budget development and long-term planning. Interpret new legislation for public notification. Actively engage in public health communication efforts.

    • Act as the primary agency spokesperson for communication-related activities. Direct DPH messaging across various platforms including website, newsletters, and social media. Coordinate with media staff to ensure consistent messaging. Collaborate with program offices to promote events and causes. Provide information on DPH programs, FOIA requests, public events, and more.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve community engagement and agency image. Manage the design and delivery of speeches, presentations, and informational materials. Serve as an official agency representative in various events. Prepare public testimony and coordinate press releases.

    • Minimum Qualifications:

    Requires a bachelor's degree and four years of administrative experience. Preferred qualifications include additional coursework in business or public administration, and extensive experience in communications strategy.



    Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm
