- M.F.A. in Illustration or a record of substantial creative/professional achievement in a relevant discipline/field. Degree at time of application or official notification of degree completion by August 1, 2024.
- Awareness of diverse traditions, histories, philosophies and professional practices in illustration, and the ability to incorporate into instruction
- Demonstrated effectiveness in image-making in the areas of illustration, drawing, and/or painting with a strong visual imagination
- Familiarity with industry standard software applications relevant to illustration and the applied arts

The School of Art at California State University, Long Beach invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the Illustration program. We seek applicants who are committed to illustration as a contemporary creative art form, who maintain an active professional practice, and who are dedicated to an engagement with arts education at a public university.
The School of Art is dedicated to its mission of creating a comprehensive art school experience within the context of a large publicly funded state university. At the undergraduate level, we provide a diverse population of over 1,500 aspiring artists and art scholars with access to affordable, quality education combining a broad-based liberal arts collegiate experience with a firm historical, theoretical, and foundational art curriculum. At the graduate level, our degree programs are designed with a dual emphasis on tailoring programs of study to individual students while fostering shared experience among a community of graduate students. Our faculty is committed to the belief that an education in the visual arts and related scholarship can be grounded in tradition while geared toward innovation; can foster both discipline-centered and interdisciplinary activity and discourse; and can achieve a fusion of informed dialogue, practice, and production.
