General Summary
As the Irving S.

Gilmore School of Music continues to enhance its performing arts offerings, establishing the tenure-track position of Director of Opera Studies is not only a strategic imperative but also a pivotal step toward cultivating a vibrant and comprehensive educational experience in alignment with WMU's commitment to academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and community engagement.

Opera, being a multidisciplinary art form, possesses unique potential to significantly contribute to the holistic development of our students, continue to elevate our performing arts programming, and enhance our university's standing within the broader community.

We seek a Director of Opera Studies to lead those efforts starting August 2024.
Major Duties
Teaching applied voice lessons focusing on but not limited to TTBB.

Teaching Italian/English diction, French/German diction, Phonetics for Singers, Aural Skills, Practicum courses, Vocal Literature, as well as developing and teaching general education courses such as Opera on Film.

Staging live productions, opera scenes, or opera workshops.
Maintaining contractually appropriate service to the institution, college, and unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Must hold at least a MM or international equivalent in vocal performance for an accredited institution.
Possess a tenor, baritone, bass vocal range.
Have at least two years of post-graduate, college-level teaching experience with an emphasis in opera studies.
Have a vibrant professional record commensurate with years of experience in the field.
Have evidence of creative, professional, and curricular accomplishment in areas related to voice education and opera studies.
