    About Us

    Join our dedicated cybersecurity team at the SAA and play a pivotal role in enhancing our cybersecurity posture. We're seeking a dedicated professional to join us in protecting the systems and information used to create the legislation that underwrites our democracy. We create a resilient cybersecurity operation by pro-actively identifying, protecting, detecting, reacting, and recovering (IPDRR) the US Senate enterprise. We combine people, processes, and technology into a state of the art, continuous risk-reduction practice that is flexible, innovative, and effective.

    Role Overview

    Step into a role where challenges become opportunities. You will join our Cyber Security Operations Center team in our Operations Branch to complement a technically proficient, customer-focused, responsive team of experts dedicated to triaging potential and actual cybersecurity incidents, responding to cybersecurity concerns among the Senate community, and providing a robust defense against a wide range of cyber threats 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Support team configuration and optimization of cyber defense tools.
    • Support team characterization and analysis of network traffic to identify anomalous activity and potential threats.
    • Contribute expert technical support to enterprise-wide cyber defense technicians.
    • Assist in team updates of defense tool rules and signatures.
    • Contribute to team technical validation of cybersecurity-enabled products or other compensating security control technologies.
    • Analyze log files.
    • Triage cyber defense incidents.
    • Support trend analysis and reporting to ensure quality of cyber defense.
    • Contribute to adjustments to technical platforms, processes, and environment, based on cybersecurity capability assessments/audits.
    • Support design and drafting of incident findings for stakeholders.
    • Support collection of intrusion artifacts and mitigation of potential cyber incidents.
    • Contribute technical expertise to law enforcement personnel.
    • Engage with external data sources to monitor threats and assess potential impact.
    Key Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties
    Provides functional and/or technical skills for the assigned cybersecurity unit. Supports the unit's work effort as required in preparing materials for collaborating with other sections, divisions, departments, and vendors to gather and disseminate information. Contributes to the unit's work effort as required in preparing analysis and materials for providing expert level support in the assigned area of cybersecurity to SAA IT security branch staff, other SAA technical staff, SAA procurement staff, and other division or departments; and for identifying and resolving critical and complex issues in the assigned unit. Supports the unit's work effort as directed in providing leadership to the unit's project teams and contractors. Work includes helping to develop plans, assignments, and coordination of work efforts. Supports the unit's work effort to develop governing policies, standards, and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS

    Required Education
    High School Diploma, GED.

    Required Work Experience
    • Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience within a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)-type environment.
    Skills and Abilities
    • Determining how a cybersecurity system should work.
    • Preserving evidence integrity according to relevant standards.
    • Using incident handling methodologies.
    • Troubleshooting and diagnosing cyber defense infrastructure anomalies and work through resolution.
    • Assessing security controls based on cybersecurity principles and tenets.
    • Conducting investigations and developing comprehensive reports.
    • Evaluating the adequacy of security designs.
    • Tuning sensors.
    • Using protocol analyzers.
    • Collecting data from a variety of cyber defense resources.
    • Securing network communications.
    • Recognizing and categorizing types of vulnerabilities and associated attacks.
    • Protecting a network against malware. (e.g., NIPS, anti-malware, restrict/prevent external devices, spam filters).
    • Sourcing data used in intelligence, assessment and/or planning products.
    • Applying cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements.
    • Designing incident response for cloud service models.
    • Applying techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions.
    • Interpreting network tool information.
    Desired Qualifications
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles.

    • Knowledge of authentication, authorization, and access control methods.
    • Knowledge of vulnerability information dissemination sources.
    • Knowledge of incident categories, incident responses, and timelines for responses.
    • Knowledge of intrusion detection methodologies and techniques.
    • Knowledge of network attacks.
    • Knowledge of insider threat investigations, reporting, investigative tools, and laws/regulations.
    • Knowledge of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of collection management processes, capabilities, and limitations.
    • Knowledge of types of cyber-attacks and attack stages.
    • Knowledge of applicable laws and statutes.
    • Knowledge of encryption methodologies.
    • Knowledge of signature implementation impact for viruses, malware, and attacks.
    • Knowledge of cloud service models.
    • Knowledge of malware analysis concepts and methodologies.
    • Knowledge of packet-level analysis using appropriate tools.
    • Knowledge of penetration testing principles, tools, and techniques.
    • Knowledge of intrusion detection and prevention system tools and applications.

    Working Conditions
    • Sedentary.
    • To meet the needs of the US Senate, the person in this position will be required to work extended hours, outside normal business hours, which includes but may not be limited to holidays and weekends, as necessary
    • To meet the needs of the US Senate, the person in this position will be required to be on call, or report on-site on a rotation, as needed by SAA.
    Security Clearance
    • This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance.
    • Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
