    This Patient Service Representative position supports our Pediatrics department and is responsible for providing a high-quality patient check in experience and managing a high volume of patient calls. This busy office helps to support 12 providers and can see over 100 patients a day. The ideal candidate will have a cheerful and professional demeanor while being able to function in a fast-paced medical office. You'll be on the front line for creating a positive Scripps Health experience for our patients while being responsible for the following:

    Interacting with patients, payers and providers to gather information for accurate registration including assigning of Medical Record Number, scheduling, referral/authorization, point of service payment collection and arrival/check-in functions.

    Responding to customer billing and payment inquires.

    Manage the patient check-in and check-out process from start to finish, which includes identification verification; confirming demographic and insurance information; ensuring forms are provided, signed and witnessed at the time of the patient visit and accurately preparing end of day reporting or payment reconciliation as needed.

    Escalating billing inquiries as needed.

    Accurately scheduling patient appointments. Successful scheduling includes, exhibiting proficiency in appointment scheduling procedures, documentation and routing of messages, scheduling and confirming appointments and entering appropriate insurance.

    Initiating and validating referrals/authorizations.

    Having a proactive approach to customer service by listening to the patient, taking ownership of solutions and is able to accurately identify the need to involve leadership in order to resolve concerns.

    This is a benefitted Part Time (56 hours per pay period), Day Shift position located at Scripps Coastal Medical Center Encinitas.

    All healthcare personnel are required to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated (and boosted once eligible) against COVID-19 or agree to receive the vaccination at the point of hire or submit a written request for an exception based on a medical reason, disability or sincerely-held religious belief, practice or observance with supporting documentation. Proof of vaccination and booster (if eligible) must be submitted at the pre-employment physical. All employees are required to be up-to-date with their scheduled COVID-19 vaccine dose (2nd dose or booster) within 2 weeks of becoming eligible for such dose to be considered compliant. Failure to submit proof of vaccine or booster dose or an approved exemption within that two week window will result in suspension without pay and/or termination for non-compliance.

    **Required Qualifications:**

    Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of computer applications, excellent mathematical skills and ability to handle monies.

    Excellent communication and customer service skills.

    Strong organizational and analytical skills; innovative with ability to identify and solve problems.

    **Preferred Qualifications:**

    1 or more years of experience customer service or healthcare/medical office environment preferred.

    Previous experience working with Pediatrics.

    Able to adapt, prioritize and meet deadlines.

    Knowledge of medical terminology, commercial and government health insurance and billing guidelines, ACA requirements, understanding of DRG's, Medical ICD9/ICD10 codes and CPT/HCPC Codes and Modifiers.
