    Job Description

    Essential Functions:

    This position will play a vital role in our daily operations. In addition to assigned duties, the responsibilities of this role include:

    • Adherence to all values, practices, and policies of the YMCA of Greater Springfield.
    • Compliance with camp policies, especially those related to safety.
    • Following local Department of Health requirements and Massachusetts laws governing summer camp programs.
    • Collaborating with Camp Directors to execute camp programs such as attendance, transportation, games, activities, swimming, and other day camp activities.
    • Ensuring a safe environment for all participants by working closely with staff.
    • Maintaining high standards for staff and programs.
    • Championing customer service best practices.
    • Contributing to the development of new programs, promotions, events, and fundraising.
    • Representing the YMCA in a professional manner and fostering a positive atmosphere during work shifts.
    • Occasional weekend and overnight shifts may be required.

    This position typically operates Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, based on camp assignments.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum age of 18 at the time of hiring.
    • At least 2 years of experience in programming, camp operations, or equivalent Y involvement.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in program design and implementation.
    • High school diploma or equivalent, or enrollment in a GED program.
    • Additional professional experience or E-5 rank may substitute education where permitted.
    • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required or must be willing to obtain and maintain them.
    • Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced, participant-centered environment.
    • Demonstrated skills in organizational leadership, coaching, and personal development.
    • Experience in teaching and leading diverse groups in youth programs.
    • Ability to role-model positive behaviors.
    • Capable of working in high-value and potentially high-stress settings.
    • Comfort working with a diverse population.
    • Exemplifies YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
    • Strong relationship-building abilities.
    • Proficient in swimming, bicycling, and comfortable in outdoor conditions for extended periods.
    • Associate/Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., Education, Social Work, Ecology) preferred.
