    What we want

    The Dietitian supports the Diabetes Education Program by providing group and individual instruction andeducation on diabetes self-management in various urban and rural settings for children, adolescents, andfamilies.

    Assists in developing and implementing nutrition-focused education programs and serves as amember of the Diabetes Education Center's Advisory Committee.

    Salary:
    $5,000.00/month

    Other Requirements and Factors:
    May require work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends. Musthave reliable transportation. Some travel may be required.

    QualificationsRequired Education and Experience:
    Bachelor's degree in applicable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of experience in administrative dietetic programs and processes.


    Required Licenses and Certifications:


    Licensed Dietitian in the State of Texas and credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), or eligible to obtain licensure/registration within 90 days of employment.


    • Valid State of Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
    • Licensure/registration must be maintained for continued employment.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong time management, organizational, and planning skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    Working knowledge of American Diabetes Association guidelines. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Master's degree in nutrition, health, or dietetics. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Bilingual (Spanish and English).


    Responsibilities:

    Patient Care:

    Provides group and individual instruction and education on diabetes self management in various urban/rural settings for children, adolescents, and families.

    Travels to various locations as needed.

    Conducts initial and follow-up assessments for program participants, maintains patient records, and program evaluation in accordance with American Diabetes Association guidelines.


    Health Education Programs:
    Assists in developing and implementing nutrition-focused educational programs for children, adolescents, and families. Provides expertise to build a comprehensive education program. Provides assistance for the Wellness Education program. Plans and coordinates grocery educational tours and cooking demonstrations and performs related work as needed to support these events. Participates in health fairs andpublic speaking engagements as assigned.

    Stays well versed in new trends of evidence based practices in diabetes and makes program recommendations for children, adolescents, and families.


    Committees/Continuing Education:
    Serves as a member of the Diabetes Education Center's Advisory Committee and attends meetings as required. Acts in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and departmental/university policies and procedures. Participates in continuing education activities to maintain licensure/certification(s). Performs other duties as assigned.
