    The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for designing education programs and instructional materials relevant to professional clinical practice area of expertise.

    Coordinates courses and programs to meet the needs of the clinical interdisciplinary rehabilitation staff (including nurses, physicians, and therapists). Collaborates with management of clinical programs to meet staff development needs and provide relevant educational programs. Promotes professional growth and development through mentoring/training.


    In conjunction with the Director, Nursing Education coordinates and implements activities to ensure Magnet Recognition Program are met at wholly owned SRAlab sites.

    Ensures SRAlab continuing education programs meet ANCC Commission on Continuing Education standards and maintains SRAlab status as an approved provider of nursing continuing education.

    Ensures CPR training meets standards set by the American Heart Association.


    Coordinates and evaluates staff development programs (orientation and continuing education) to meet the needs of SRAlab clinical and nursing staff.


    • Collaborates with clinical staff in planning and developing continuing education programs as well as orientation and ongoing rehabilitation nursing learning experiences.
    • Coordinates the Student Affiliation Program, working with faculty at colleges and universities, and nursing staff to secure student clinical placements and promote rehabilitation nursing as a career option.
    • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates interdisciplinary and discipline-specific competency skills training, defining the measures, outcomes, and quality indicators for educational activities.
    • Develops educational materials using a variety of print and electronic formats to meet curriculum objectives.
    • Assists the Director, Nursing Education to collect and disseminate nursing quality and outcome data required by external agencies (Magnet, the Joint Commission, NDNQI or State of Illinois)
    • Ensures educational programs are in compliance with regulatory agencies including the Joint Commission, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Magnet Recognition Program, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the American Heart Association.
    • Facilitates the professional growth and development of clinical instructors through mentoring/training to implement learning experiences in a variety of settings and mediums.
    • Oversees and develops proposals, reports and grant applications for funding of educational programs and activities.
    • Reports directly to the Director, Nursing Education and Staff Development
    Level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.


    • Current State license for nursing practice.
    • Minimum 3 years nursing experience with 2 years of experience in education.
    • Knowledge of rehabilitation practices, theories and skill in adult education teaching strategies and curriculum development.
    • Knowledge of educational strategies and experience in planning and implementing education programs for rehabilitation personnel.
    • Able to communicate with all levels of health care professionals, to motivate, instruct and supervise staff.
    • Analytical skills to assess existing programs, to research and develop new educational materials and programs.
    • Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
