    The mission of the Mental Health Association is to promote mental health, with the integration of physical healthcare, to improve the care and treatment of individuals with mental illness, and to remove the stigma associated with mental health disorders and addictions.

    MHA is seeking a Clinical Co-Responder to join our South Orange Co-Response Team to support the South Orange Police Department

    Available shift time is Monday- Friday , 10AM - 6PM

    Provides Clinical Co-Response to the South Orange Police Department

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's Degree and a License in Social Work or Counseling is required (LPC/LCSW Preferred, LAC or LSW will be considered with at least 1-2 years of experience).
    • Must have a valid NJ driver's license and a good driving record.
    • Knowledge of Essex County resources is helpful.
    • Ability to provide effective crisis response and de-escalation as related to community mental health/justice involved individuals in the community.
    • Able to collaborate effectively with responding officers to provide support and resources to individuals within South Orange.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provides co-responding efforts to identified mental health and crisis response incidents in the community, in collaboration with the township of South Orange.
    ​​​
    Co-Responding
    • Responding to calls in conjunction with South Orange Police Department for cases in which a mental health concern is indicated, including but not limited to: mental health crisis, quality of life calls, wellness checks, and connection/linkage to community services
    • Ongoing collaboration with South Orange Police Department around appropriate training and education to support a shift towards better understanding of the social services lens and best practice regarding de-escalation approaches on calls.
    • Developing systems for on-going follow up for community members in need of connections to social services that can enhance prevention of non-emergency calls and increase early intervention treatment access.
    • Direct follow up with identified clients and collateral contacts as needed in order to facilitate access to appropriate services based on immediate client needs.
    • Record keeping, reports, and documentation in accordance with program requirements.
    • Being on-call and available to South Orange Police Department during scheduled work hours via cell phone.
    Training
    • Providing South Orange Police Department with monthly trainings on varying mental health related topics as determined through collaboration.
    Meeting Attendance
    • Attending regularly scheduled meetings: supervision, agency meetings, and training(s) as assigned.
    ​​​​​Record Keeping & Reporting
    • Record keeping as required by funding sources through the electronic clinical record software, and/or accreditation agencies as required.
    Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
