    Mission or Goal of Unit:

    The mission of the School of Nursing is to shape the future of nursing through the power of education, discovery, and collaboration.

    Chief Purpose of this position:

    VCUSchool of Nursing invites applicants to apply to the role of Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Faculty. This is an open rank 12-monthterm faculty position who serves as faculty with clinicalexpertise in psychiatric mental health across the age span. Faculty hired intothis position will teach primarilyin undergraduate psych mental health, but may qualify for some graduatepsychiatric mental health courses; contribute to curriculum development,implementation, and evaluation; coordinate clinical sections and clinicaleducation sites; develops preceptors and appropriate clinical sites, clinicallysupervise students in undergraduate clinical and/or graduate practica (if qualified);participate in school governance activities; and implement all roles of term track faculty (teaching, scholarship and service).

    Faculty appointment rank, and salaryare dependent on demonstrated scholarly achievement, certifications, andteaching experience.

    Position Responsibilities:

  • Demonstratescommitment to contributing to VCU's strategic plan, Quest 2028 (
  • Engages faculty, students, and staff to foster adiverse community at VCU
  • Demonstrates an integrated academiclife, contributing to the teaching, scholarship, and service missions in anurban research-intensive university with an academic health science center
  • Participatesin all aspects of curriculum including curriculum development, teaching (inclassroom and clinical settings), and evaluation
  • Maintainsa commitment to serving the school of nursing, university, profession, andcommunity
  • Maintains ongoing scholarlycontributions to their field such as translation of evidence to practice, professional presentations, or manuscriptpublications

    • Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed or eligible forlicensure as a registered nurse in Virginia
  • Graduatedegree in nursing
  • Clinicalexperience working with individuals with mental health conditions
  • Documentedeffectiveness in collaboration and communication
  • Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and studentenvironment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

    • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or DNP) in nursing or related field (required to teach graduate courses)
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification (required to teach NP courses)
  • Experiencein higher education including teaching, simulation instruction, accreditation,program review or assessment
  • Record of accomplishments in scholarship and professional service
