- Ensure that H/S regulatory requirements are met, and provide support to staff in accomplishing these goals
- Support the site's operation as a contract manufacturer by managing, developing and implementing H/S processes. Key elements of the include: review of raw materials, industrial hygiene review of potential employee exposures and subsequent engineering controls, storage and handling requirements, Process Safety Management (PSM) potential impacts, and potential training requirements
- Help manage GHS program and evaluate new chemicals introduced at the site
- Oversee site Respiratory Protection Program
- Perform operational readiness reviews as required, HazOps risk assessments and other safety reviews as required.
- Schedule and lead monthly department safety meetings
- Act as H/S liaison for monthly safety committee meetings
- Ensure department safety committee inspections are performed at the required frequency, action items are developed and tracked
- Assist in creating and distributing weekly toolbox talks
- Conduct follow up investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all H/S training classes
- Implement H/S programs in compliance with site SOPs and OHSA
- Assists with internal and external inspections & audits (EPA, VADEQ, FDA, DEA, DOT)
- Interact with all departments at the site, as well as with third parties and customers during audits and new product proposal meetings
- Oversee site environmental stewardship
- Manage VEEP (Virginia Environmental Excellence Program) environmental stewardship & pollution preventative activities
- Capture site utility usage and savings
- Act as a lead for quarterly Energy Council meetings
- Implement waste programs as per site SOP's and in compliance with DOT rules
- Develop, review/revise SOPs
- Help with implementation of waste programs as per site SOP's and in compliance with regulatory agencies
- Assist with site wide spill response team
- Ensure government and company reporting requirements are met
- Support EHS training related documentation and recordkeeping
- Review and document site Refrigerant Management Program
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related scientific or management discipline.
- 5 years of relevant work experience for those with Bachelor's degree in EHS relevant discipline.
- Certification in recognized EHS specialties' (CSP, CIH) or professional licensure may be considered equivalent to up to 3 years of work experience.
- Advanced knowledge of H/S local, state and federal regulations.
- Strong background of chemical knowledge and hazardous waste handling requirements
- Must be comfortable giving presentations to audiences of all kinds.
- Must be detail-oriented and a team-player
- Must have knowledge of the technology and typical site operations
- Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
- Basic Computer Skills to include PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
