    Starting Pay: 41.39/hour with annual increases

    Job Summary


    Under direction of the Shift Team Leader, the Chemist is responsible to support plant operation by provided process control and troubleshooting.

    Typically this position requires working rotating shifts including night shifts, weekends and holidays. This job description is not meant to be all-inclusive, and will include other reasonable work expectations as assigned.

    Essential Job Functions

    Conduct, analyze and validate process control tests, mainly water, to provide efficiency data for long and short-term operations decisions.


    Monitor and troubleshoot plant processes daily to anticipate problems and underlying causes before they become emergencies and report findings to appropriate individuals.

    Perform troubleshooting analysis for boiler tube leaks, condenser tube leaks and Glycol excursions.

    Document and validate test results within the performance and results database.

    Identify standards and define performance measures for equipment and systems processes with input from system engineers.

    Support plant operations for Colstrip Power Plant.


    Contribute to, support, communicate and adhere to site-wide technical and business directions, including Business Plan, Equipment Strategies and other implemented Reliability Based Production processes and business rules.

    General cleaning of areas worked in in.

    Must be able to learn and understand fossil fuel plant process systems.

    Must be able to analyze and research for actual causes.

    Must be able to think beyond own functional unit when solving problems.

    Must maintain Colstrip Power Plant safety procedures and safe work practices.

    Must communicate effectively, both written and oral.

    Basic Qualifications

    High School Diploma/GED

    Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or closely related science field.

    Must have basic computer skills.

    License or Certificate Requirements

    Valid Drivers' License

    Passed or be able to pass the Skilled Trades Testing/EEI MASS testing.

    Talen owns and operates approximately 12.4 GW of power infrastructure in the United States.
