Position Summary:
The Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology is seeking candidates for an R01-fundedposition for postdoctoral work centered around the molecular mechanisms ofdrug- and stress-induced transcriptomics using cutting-edge neuroscientificmethods in mice. The successful applicant will independently conduct andanalyze experiments involving surgical mouse preparation, viral mediated genetransfer, behavior and next generation sequencing approaches, design andimplementation of experiments to modulate neuronal gene expression, and designof synthetic neuroepigenetic editing constructs. Other duties includescientific publication and presentation of completed studies, maintenance andorganization of laboratory equipment and animal colony.
Position Responsibilities:
The idealcandidate for this position will be highly motivated to work both independentlyto successfully execute the required studies outlined in the R01 project, andwill also thrive in a highly collaborative environment. The candidate will beresponsible for performing research (80%), writing grants and manuscripts(15%), and contributing to the organization of the laboratory (5%).
Required Qualifications:
MD or in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field. Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a Postdoctoral Fellow at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
Track record of experimental work or coursework in neuroscience/molecular biology/ biochemistry.
Laboratory experience handling and performing stereotaxic surgery on mice.
Experience collecting and analyzing RNA sequencing, biochemistry, and behavioral data.
Experience analyzing scientific data using R, MATLAB, Python, or other languages.
This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
