    Position Summary

    The Dental Assistant is responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of procedures performed by dental staff and assists dentist(s) in all phases of dentistry, including taking diagnostic intra-oral x-rays and front desk.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Performs basic supportive dental procedures as follows under the general supervision of licensed dentist(s):

    1. Assists dentist(s) chair side in all phases of dentistry.
    2. Manages patient behavior during treatment.
    3. Operates dental radiographic equipment for the purpose of oral radiology; taking diagnostic quality x-rays, developing and mounting correctly as requested by the dentist(s) as often as needed.
    4. Follows infection control protocols as specified by professional, state and federal standards. Uses appropriate protective carriers.
    5. Assists patients with oral hygiene instructions following dental procedures.
    6. Performs tasks with adherence to all OSHA and regulatory sterilization, infection control, and protective barrier guidelines.
    7. Documents treatment and patient information in dental software program.
    8. Front desk responsibilities.
    9. Performs other duties, as assigned by the Practice Manager and/or Dentist.
    10. Other Duties and Responsibilities as assigned

    Required Skills or Abilities

    1. Ability to assist dentist in all phases of dentistry, and take diagnostic intra-oral x-rays.
    2. Strong organizational, administrative, and problem-solving skills and ability to be flexible and adaptive to change.
    3. Ability to effectively present information to others, including other employees, community partners, and vendors.
    4. Ability to seek direction/approval on essential matters, yet work independently with little onsite supervision, using professional judgment and diplomacy.
    5. Work in a team-oriented environment with a number of professionals with different work styles and support needs.
    6. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills and ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds and to be culturally sensitive.
    7. Conduct oneself in external settings in a way that reflects positively on PrimeCare Community Health as an organization of professional, confident, and sensitive staff.
    8. Ability to see how one's work intersects with that of other departments of PrimeCare Community Health and that of other partner organizations.
    9. Make appropriate use of knowledge/ expertise/connections of other staff.

    Physical Demands

    1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
    1. Must be able to move around the clinic site 50% of the time.
    2. Constantly operates a computer, computer printer, copy machine, and telephone.
    3. Occasionally positions self to maintain exertion of physical strength to move objects of 10 pounds from one level to another.
    4. Must be able to transport from one site to another.
    5. Must be able to cover other shifts as necessary.

    Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration

    1. Completion of certified Dental Assisting Training Program.
    2. Current CPR from AHA approved organization.
    3. Knowledge of proper use of all dental materials and dental equipment and ability to assist dentist.
    4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office strongly preferred.
    5. Coronal Polishing Certification, preferred.
