Maintains an inventory of items. Contacts vendors and purchases items. Performs other duties as assigned. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Staffs the counter of an automotive or equipment parts stockroom. Receives requests from mechanics and others for parts and supplies. Accesses an automated database to locate requested parts in the stockroom and throughout the BCPS system. Pulls requested items from stockroom shelves. Dispenses parts. Assembles orders for delivery. Maintains an inventory of automotive and heavy equipment parts, tools, materials, supplies, and equipment. Organizes and maintains a stockroom. Rotates stock and restocks shelves. Conducts physical inventories of the stockroom. Enters part information onto work orders. Maintains records of stockroom transactions and inputs data into the Grounds comprehensive maintenance management system (CMMS) and/or other computer programs. Performs various manual labor tasks. Contacts vendors and purchases stocked items. Locates and purchases non-stock items from suppliers. Gets price information from suppliers. Ensures parts meet specifications. Prepares and fills requisitions. Receives shipments of parts, supplies, and materials. Compares shipment contents with the invoice. Picks up parts, supplies, and materials from suppliers and other stockrooms. Delivers parts, supplies, materials and equipment. Loads and unloads vans and trucks as needed. Oversees the work of material handlers and drivers. Operates material handling equipment, including forklifts, to move inventory in a stockroom or warehouse. Operates trucks and equipment as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and Experience: Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent, plus two years of stock keeping and/or related experience. (Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.) Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required. Some positions require possession of a valid commercial, class A Maryland driver's license or an equivalent. (The license may require certain endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.) Employees who do not obtain and maintain the required license will be terminated. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of stock keeping. Knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment parts. Knowledge of automated inventory management systems. Knowledge of procurement. Skill in maintaining an inventory of stocked items. Skill in receiving, storing, and dispensing parts, supplies, and equipment. Skill in maintaining records and files. Skill in the use of an automated inventory management system. Office of Grounds positions require skill in the operation of grounds vehicles and equipment. Ability to operate a forklift. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The work of this class involves frequent walking and standing, lifting and carrying of objects of moderate to heavy weight (up to 100 pounds), and the use of coordinative and manipulative skills in the operation of material handling equipment. Work requires exposure to stockroom and garage environments that include exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, machinery, and equipment. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Persons appointed to this class are designated as essential personnel and as such are required to work during emergency events, subject to call to duty, and may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advance notice. Employees who operate material handling equipment must have successfully completed a training program in the operation of powered industrial lift trucks and must remain competent to operate such equipment safely throughout their employment. Persons appointed to this class who are required to possess a commercial driver's license must be physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations and must remain physically qualified to operate such vehicles throughout their employment. Persons holding a commercial driver's license (CDL) are subject to alcohol and drug testing in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations and Board of Education policy.       Pre-Employment Requirements:
      • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
      • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
      • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
      • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to hire.
      • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
      • All newly hired personnel must attend a Benefits session.
      • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
