Job Description
Position Overview
The Ingalls Shipfitter is the truest picture of a Shipbuilding Craftsman. They are the artisans who cut, grind, bend and fit together the raw steel to create the shape of our battle tested ships. Does that sound like an interesting way to make a great living? Then a rewarding career as a Shipfitter at Ingalls Shipbuilding, "America's Shipyard" and Mississippi's largest private employer is waiting for you.

Job Description
An Ingalls Shipfitter, also referred to as a Journeyman Shipfitter or a Boilermaker, is responsible for various tools and equipment used in the fabrication, assembling and erection of metal components at the various stages in constructing a marine vessel. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Shipfitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations, with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.
Basic Qualifications
Knowledge of setting and erecting units; knowledge of the use of Datum Lines, familiar with fit up and alignment tolerances; advanced blue print reading skills; 3 or more years of marine, shipbuilding or construction experience. Tech Master Certification, High School Graduate or Equivalent.
