    Family Resource Center Social Work Intern at East Bay Agency for Children

    ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

    East Bay Agency for Children's (EBAC) goal is to enhance the well-being of children, youth, and families by minimizing the effects of trauma and social injustices. EBAC endeavors to eliminate obstacles that lead to inequalities in wellness for economically underprivileged and racially marginalized families, fostering communities where all children and families have the necessary support systems to realize their full potential.

    Established in 1952 by parents of autistic children striving to provide equal educational and recreational opportunities, EBAC pioneered the first day-treatment program west of the Mississippi. This marked the genesis of a progressive journey in meeting the needs of children and families in the San Francisco Bay Area, particularly in Alameda County.

    Current programs by EBAC cater to over 10,000 children, youth, and families annually in Alameda County, aiming to provide each child and family with specific resources, skills, and support essential for their growth. The organization has expansively diversified its range of program offerings, including various supports and services to the community.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Family Resource Center Social Work Intern at EBAC offers a range of vital services to caregivers with a focus on outreach and support for at-risk families in Alameda County. This role involves providing individual therapy, case management, connecting families to support services, and aiding in public benefits enrollment. It also includes conducting parent education workshops to empower families and enhance community well-being.

    QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCY FACTORS

    • Currently pursuing a Master's in Social Work.
    • Prior experience in working with caregivers is advantageous.
    • Proficiency in multiple languages and cultural understanding is desirable.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
    • Demonstrated sensitivity and empathy towards the community's needs.
    • Capability to collaborate with diverse public agencies and individuals.
    • Ability to work autonomously with professional discretion and judgment.
    • Proficiency in clear verbal and written communication.
    • Cultural awareness and self-reflective abilities.
    • Competence in utilizing technology, including G Suite and electronic health record systems.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Deliver individual therapy sessions for caregivers both in community settings and through telehealth services.
    • Collaborate with caregivers to develop family goal plans utilizing the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework.
    • Conduct protective factors assessments and surveys with caregivers.
    • Offer short-term case management, providing consistent support to enhance family resilience for a minimum of 10 families.
    • Assist in public benefits enrollment and connecting families to necessary resources.
    • Provide Crisis Intervention support when required.
    • Accurately document progress notes, assessments, and other necessary information in the agency's Electronic Health Record System.
    • Facilitate community education presentations and support parent workshops and training.
    • Ensure timely completion of all documentation requirements to safeguard family service information.
    • Engage in networking with team members and external partners to strengthen participant support networks.
    • Attend relevant trainings and practicum meetings.
    • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS and JOB SETTING

    • Work primarily in an office environment.
    • May require travel between sites for meetings.
    • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for transportation.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be necessary.
