    Ending Hunger Corps Greater Brunswick Ending Hunger VISTA


    Work with one of Maine's largest hunger relief organizations and play a vital role in the community to end hunger in Maine by 2030 As part of the Ending Hunger Corps, this position bolsters a strong partnership between MCHPP and SMCC - Brunswick where the VISTA can live for free on campus.

    MCHPP's mission is to offer dignity and empowerment by providing all members of our community with access to healthy food.

    As part of a cohort working to end hunger across the state of Maine the Greater Brunswick Ending Hunger VISTA will develop a SNAP enrollment program for more families to access food resources, implement a Client Council to amplify the voices of people with lived experiences, and develop a robust and comprehensive program evaluation strategy assessing MCHPP's programs to ensure the agency meets goals and objectives.

    Finally, the VISTA will work with SMCC - Brunswick to improve the Captain's Cupboard, a school pantry providing resources to students.

    Along with the free housing at SMCC - Brunswick MCHPP offers food resources and travel reimbursements. The VISTA will live in Brunswick supporting the greater community through MCHPP's expansive county wide programs. Food insecurity exists not because of a lack of food, but because of poverty.

    MCHPP is committed to helping people access free food in order to spend their resources on other necessities and niceties.

    Member Duties :

    The Greater Brunswick Ending Hunger VISTA will work closely with MCHPP's program staff to expand and improve their services in an effort to offer more food with minimal barriers to more families in need.

    Utilizing best practices developed by previous Ending Hunger VISTAs the VISTA will develop a SNAP enrollment program at MCHPP - developing policies and recruiting and training volunteers.

    MCHPP is in the middle of large operational changes and looks to develop a cross program survey and evaluation strategy to aid in decision making.

    Additionally, the VISTA will work with staff to establish a Client Council with the goal of gathering feedback and ideas from individuals with lived experience for the same purposes.

    Lastly, as part of the partnership with SMCC - Brunswick the VISTA will work with students and faculty to expand the already existing pantry on campus, improving the quality and quantity of food available to students.
